Indiana has a particular kind of portrait photographer. Golden hour, open fields, soft focus — beautiful work, and a lot of people do it well. I'm not that photographer.
A session with me starts with a conversation about what you're actually after — what the photos are for, what you want them to say, what kind of person you want to look like in them. Then we find a location that fits, and we work from there.
The Midwest has good light and nature. It also has concrete, brick, and industrial space that nobody thinks to photograph in. I like both.

What actually happens in a session? Do I need to prepare anything?
We have a conversation first — about what you're after, what the photos are for, what kind of location might fit. If you have a clear vision, it's worth thinking about outfits ahead of time; some people bring a couple of options. If you don't have a specific look in mind, that's fine too — wear what you'd wear. I'll direct enough to keep things moving without making it feel staged.
How long until I get my portraits?
Usually within two weeks of the session. I'll send a link to your edited portraits as a private gallery — high-resolution files, yours to download and keep.
Where do sessions in Lafayette and West Lafayette take place?
Wherever fits the portrait — the Wabash Heritage Trail, downtown Lafayette, industrial spots near the river, the Purdue campus. We work it out together based on what you're after. If you have somewhere in mind, say so.

The Essential session (one hour, five edited portraits) covers most academic profile needs. We'd talk beforehand about what the portrait is for and what register it needs to hit.
